Fishing
Stein Vatten is located at the junctions of Monroe, Vernon
and LaCrosse counties in west central Wisconsin. The cottage is
situated 300 feet from the banks of Rullands Creek with easy and
direct access to public fishing.
Streams
Rullands Creek flows into Timber Coulee Creek 1/4 mile
downstream and Bohemian Valley Creek enters Timber 4 miles
further downstream. These streams are spring fed limestone
creeks which meander through cow pastures and wooded areas.
Because they run narrow and swiftly and being fed by spring
waters they do not experience the warm water temperatures that
plague larger streams. Over the years the Wisconsin DNR and
local sports clubs have done extensive habitat restoration to
these streams. They continue to maintain them for the health and
longevity of the fish population.
Fish Species
The area provides hundreds of miles of streams where there is
an abundance of brook, brown and rainbow trout. Many of the
streams rely on stocking programs to maintain the fish
population but there is an increasing number of streams which
sustain a wild trout population. Rullands, Timber and Bohemian
are among those which do not rely on stocking. Natural
reproduction is so good that trout from these streams are taken
out and planted in other streams.
